I'm going to give you a list of my faves, but I must tell you, I am guilty of never seeing most of the classics. So the movies in my favorite list are going to be new(er). I would love to hear suggestions of what to watch though!
Home Alone
Kevin is a young boy who gets left at home alone for the holidays by mistake. His large family went of a vacation and overlooked him not getting on the plane with them. Kevin is followed by 2 men that are interested in robbing his house. He has to outsmart the robbers & does so in some very entertaining ways. This is a cute family friendly movie.
The Santa Clause
Scott Calvin is an ordinary guy, until Santa Clause falls off of his house one night. Of course Scott has a hard time believing that this man is actually St. Nick, but soon strange things start happening. Scott is expected to take over the job of Santa Clause! Can Scott live up to the expectations? He isn't anything like Santa Clause. Again, this is a great family movie. It's fun for all ages.
Dr Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This is the story of the Grinch who hated Christmas. He hadn't like it since he was a child. In the town of Whoville, a little girl named Cindy Lou is determined to bring him to love the celebration just like everyone else in Whoville. The movie stars Jim Carrey and he does a great job portraying the Grinch. Yet another great family film!
Love Actually
This movie follows 10 people as they prepare for the holiday season in London. Each person has a story to tell. The movie involves the Prime Minister, a Rock Star, and some ordinary (but lovely) chaps (imagine me saying it in a British accent). This movie is one of my all time favorites. It warms the heart with love, but also shares a touch of tragedy. This movie would not interest children, but is a great Chick Flick for date night or maybe just a quiet night with yourself. It is "The Ultimate Romantic Comedy"!
ElfBuddy the Elf has always been different from the other elves. He doesn't fit in his bed and has to have special clothes made due to his size. Buddy is huge compared to the other elves at the North Pole. He discovers that he was adopted by Papa Elf and goes in search of his real father in New York City. For a man elf that has been raised in the North Pole, this brings on quite the adventure. This is a silly but cute family friendly movie. I personally have never been a fan of Will Ferrell, but this movie is one I have grown to enjoy (they play it ALL the time on ABC family).
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
This is an unorthodox twist on the traditional Christmas Carol story. Connor Mead is a bachelor that has money and women on the mind. He has lived his life to the fullest. His younger brother is getting married and asks Connor to be in the wedding. When Connor arrives he is faced with the love of his life, the one who started him on his path of non-monogamy. The story takes a turn when he is approached by the ghost of his playboy uncle, who tells him he will be visited by more ghosts throughout the night. I think this is a great chick flick, modernized version of the old tale. It helps that both of the main characters are beautiful (Matthew McConaughey & Jennifer Garner..2 of my personal faves, but that blog comes later ;). I would not recommend this movie for children, but it's great fun for adults.
Four Christmases
Brad & Kate decide that for Christmas this year they are doing something for themselves. They are going on a vacation to a tropical island. That's what they think anyway. They end up on the news and their family sees them, they didn't intend on telling the family that's where they were going. The two of them both come from divorced families, so if they want to please everyone (which of course they do) they have to go to 4 houses to celebrate Christmas. This movie is filled with crazy parents/family members and the chaos of Christmas. It is a great movie for a good laugh, but there is some seriousness mixed in as well (so don't expect complete comedy). This movie hits kind of close to home, which only makes me appreciate it even more.
White Christmas
A song and dance team, Bob & Phil, join up with a sister act Betty & Judy. They are quite the team. They catch a train to Vermont to perform in an Inn that they discover belongs to an old Army General of the boys'. This is the only classic I think I have seen when it comes to Christmas movies. I have seen it on stage more than once and in the movie. This is a definite must see musical. Bing Crosby sings like an angel.
National Lampoon's Christmas VacationThe Griswold family are at it again. This the the hilarious story of Clark Griswold attempting to out shine the neighbors in everything he does. From the family Christmas tree that is overly large to the extravagant display of Christmas lights. This is a laugh out loud movie that will definitely get your spirits up (and possibly motivate you to go a little over the edge this season). This is another family friendly movie that's fun for all.
Charlie Brown Christmas
Charlie Brown is attempting to find the true meaning of Christmas. He's Charlie Brown, which equals great family movie.Join Snoopy & the Peanuts gang for another must see for those of you who haven't.
Well there you have my faves. Now for my LEAST favorite (you must have had an idea it was coming). I apologize in advance, because I know there are a lot of people that like this movie, I however am not one.
A Christmas Story
I didn't like this movie as a child and I don't care to try again as an adult. This movie made me want to "shoot my eye out"! I can't believe that they are making a sequel!
Well hopefully my choices didn't offend too many of you. Again, I would love to hear your choices and will put them on my "must see" list. I'll be back soon with another exciting list for you ;o) Until then, take care!
